MUMBAI, October 1: Both the precious metals recovered modestly from the reduced level on the bullion market here today.Standard gold rose by Rs 10 to Rs 4,350 per 10gm. Gold .22 carat rose by same margin at Rs 4,025 per 10 gm. Gold attracted seasonal buying at lower level ahead of diwali festival while thin supplies arrested fresh offerings by stockists and bankers. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) however closed steady at Rs 51,100 per piece. In the global market gold initially climbed to $297.75 before closing at $296.35 per an ounce.
Silver.999 bounced back by Rs 15 to Rs 7,445 per kg. In the ready section silver.916 up by Rs 10 to Rs 7,310 per kg in sympathy. Industrial and festival demand pushed silver upward. However continued overseas arrivals kept market sentiment weak at the close of the session. In the global market silver opened firm at $4.86 and closed at $4.83 per an ounce.
Groundnut oil up
Groundnut oil ruled firm on the oil, oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oilplaced quiet in the ready delivery but prices recovered on short covering in the forward market.
Groundnut oil edged up by Rs 3 to Rs 625 per 10 kg on fresh festival demand followed by tight supplies. In Rajkot prices fell by Rs 10 to Rs 805 per 15 kg. Gujarat government had banned out-station sales of edible oil which in turn arrested fresh inflow to city market, dealers said.
Imported palm oil up by Rs 2 to Rs 387 per 10 kg exclusive of tax on fresh festival demand ahead of Diwali. In the global market palm oil slipped below $700-mark at $692.50 per tonne for nearby delivery. Long deliveries were quoted lower at $680/667.50.
Castor oil ruled quiet at Rs 425/437 per 10 kg amidst limited trading. Castorseed held at Rs 1938/1944 per quintal.
In the futures section castorseed December delivery bounced back from Rs 1614 to Rs 1634 before concluding the day at Rs 1630 per quintal as lower prices attracted short covering by bears and shippers, according to floor sources.
In Ahmedabad December deliveryclimbed to Rs 1,736 and settled down at Rs 1,730 per quintal. Hyderabad advices were discouraging due to continued new crop arrivals. Gujarat was quiet.
Grains steady
Wheat Saurashtra Lokvan were placed at Rs 775-850 and SW at Rs 900-1125 a quintal. North Gujarat Tukadi were traded at Rs 765-825 and 496 at Rs 800-900. Rice Gujarat-17 met with support at Rs 1600-1700.
Among pulses, tur Mynamar 98 and 87 were in demand at Rs 2350 and at Rs 2225-2250 respectively. Kenyan tur were placed at Rs 2325. Urad Myanmar moved up by Rs 50 at Rs 1700 on reserved selling due to delay in the marketing of the deshi crop owing to incessant rains.
Australian gram were traded at Rs 1411-1415. Kabuli gram A-2 at Rs 3600-3800, B-2 at Rs 3200, C-2 at Rs 2550 and natural at Rs 2750-2850 were well-held on tight supply. Moong Myanmar ruled at Rs 1800-1850. Rajma Chitra deshi and red rajma imported were quoted at Rs 2500-2600 and at Rs 2100-2150 respectively.
Sugar quiet
A steady trend prevailed on the sugarmarket. Demand was modest.
M-30 were placed at Rs 1485-1560 and S-30 at Rs 1465-1490 a quintal ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost, the price ruled at Rs 1465-1475 and at Rs 1440-1460 respectively. Rise in the transport charges mainly contributed to steadiness, averred trade sources.
In tenders, M-30 at Rs 1410-1415 and S-30 at Rs 1390-1400 were unchanged.
Cotton dull
A dull condition was noticed on the cotton market as incessant rains affected the arrivals.
Inflow in the Punjab zone consisted of 4500 bales of Bengal deshi and 2000 bales of staple cotton. Bengal deshi ready ruled at Rs 1300-1350, October at Rs 1305-1320 and November at Rs 1280-1300. J-34 saw-ginned good average ready were placed at Rs 1750-1830. In forward October were on offer at Rs 1730-1785 and November at Rs 1715-1740. Cart-selected November were placed at Rs 1790-1860.
Sanker new Kadi ready ruled at Rs 20,000 and November at Rs 18,500-18.800 a candy. Among old cottons, V-797 were traded at Rs 15,300-15,700.
Yarnslips
A quiet tendency continued on the yarn market. Activity remained very dull due to the approaching festivals.
Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn were placed at Rs 224, 120dn at Rs 247, 100dn at Rs 260 and 75dn at Rs 269 a kg. 120dn dull cones were on offer at Rs 256.
Nylon yarn Shreelon 15/1/0dn and 20/1/0dn were quoted at Rs 240 and at Rs 225 respectively. Gujnil 30/1/0dn were placed at Rs 290 and 111/24/0 at Rs 157.
