British Airways unveils charity fund to help needy children

Our Corporate Bureau
New Delhi, Oct 15: Thousands of children in the country will receive education, nutrition, and health care under a special project launched by British Airways to celebrate the festive season.

British Airways will donate Rs 100 for every ticket purchased in the country and the rest of south Asia during this financial year towards Silver Lining, the airline's charity fund. The airline's donation is expected to raise Rs 1.1 crore. The funds will be presented to projects for the country's underpriveleged children.

British Airways will work closely with organisations such as Child Relief and You (CRY) -- in support of deserving initiatives and projects across the country.

Announcing the launch of this community project, company general manager Kevin Steele said, "British Airways in India has been involved in several projects for the benefit of underpriveleged children. They have all been a tremendous success both in terms of the ariline's contribution and the remarkable progress achieved by projects thathave been supported by it."

"Our staff play a vital role in our community relations programme which promotes service to the communities of the world. This special Silver Lining project is their commitment this Diwali," he added.

It supports a variety of projects across the globe - from street children in Brazil to orphans in Bangladesh and language centres in the UK.

The British Airways community relations programme is, more than ever before, a way of life in the airline. Its aim towards the 21st century is to contribute to changes for the better within the world communities - in line with the airline's goal of being a good neighbour.
