New Delhi, Oct 18: Once quantitative restrictions on multinational corporates are removed, the Indian food processing market will be flooded with imported products, according to sources in the food processing ministry as well as the industry. To take stock of the situation, the Union ministry of food processing has joined hands with the Confederation of Indian Food Trade and Industry (CIFTI) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry to organise a food processing industry summit in November, CIFTI Secretary-General Vijay Sardana told The Financial Express in an exclusive interview.
Some of the key topics for the summit will be ``Invasion by imported foods: Issues and opportunities in domestic markets'' and ``Planning for profits in food business''.
The McKinsey survey report on Indian food chain has projected that ``a thriving and vibrant processed food sector of US $ 20 billion is expected to experience a three times growth to US $ 60 billion by 2000 AD''.
