Legere is Dell's Asia Pacific chief

Dell Computer Corporation has announced the appointment of John J Legere as President, Asia Pacific region. Legere takes over from Phillip E Kelly.

Legere is responsible for Dell's business operations in the region, including developing and implementing strategies designed to expand Dell's business. Legere reports to the office of the CEO, which comprises Michael S Dell, chairman and chief executive officer, Morton L Topfer, vice chairman and Kevin B Rollins, vice chairman.

Legere holds executive responsibility for Dell's direct operations in ten countries and expansive distribution network across Asia Pacific, serving customers in 49 countries. In addition, he also has responsibility for Dell's two manufacturing facilities in the region: the Asia Pacific Customer Centre in Penang, Malaysia and China Customer Centre in Xiamen, China.

H S Kamath chairman of Heavy Water Board

H S Kamath has been appointed chairman and chief executive of the HeavyWater Board by the Atomic Energy Commission chairman, R Chidambaram.

Kamath succeeds S P Mukherjee, who retired on superannuation. He will have overall responsibility for safe and efficient operation of all the heavy water plants, in addition to formulating and implementing the future plans of the Heavy Water Board.

Kamath, a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Mysore, has been actively involved in the design and construction of various heavy water plants. He was executive director (operations) in the Heavy Water Board prior to taking up the present assignment.

All along, Kamath has been closely associated with Ashok Mohan, technical advisor (international relations) to the Atomic Energy Commission in developing two different technologies through which heavy water is produced at Vadodara, Tuticorin, Thal and Hazira.

Kapasi to head I-T consultants chamber

Pradip N Kapasi was unanimously elected president of the Chamber of Income Tax Consultants for the year 1998-99, at the71st annual general meeting of the chamber held in Mumbai recently.
