Usha International H1 sales jump to Rs 188 crore: Usha International Ltd has posted a 19 per cent jump in sales to Rs 188 crore for the six-month period ended September 30, 1998, as compared with the corresponding period last year. The company's gross profits rose 114 per cent to Rs 3.41 crore. Net profits increased 138 per cent. Total exports was up 50 per cent to Rs 26 crore.SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare net rises: SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare (SBCH) has reported a 27 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 23 crore for the third quarter ending September 30, as compared with the corresponding period last year. Revenues totalled Rs 181.19 crore, an increase of 17 per cent from Rs 155.05 crore. Gross operating profit rose 25 per cent to Rs 36.97 crore. A company release on Monday said that growth has been achieved through a mix of new product launches and volume increases. The company recently launched new Horlicks with smart nutrients and a health drink, Ribena Amla, lastyear.
Philips posts Rs 7cr net profit in third quarter: Consumer electronics major Philips India Ltd on Monday reported a net profit of Rs 7.2 crore for the third quarter ending September 30, 1998, against a net loss of Rs 7.09 crore during the corresponding quarter the previous year. Sales rose to Rs 423.34 crore from Rs 407.05 crore. Other income rose sharply from Rs 0.23 crore to Rs 1.01 crore. However, the company has also mentioned an income of Rs 2.87 crore under extra-ordinary items, as the profit after selling off its investments. The profit before tax was Rs 12.14 crore. The company has spent Rs 1.08 crore on the voluntary retirement scheme in the third quarter. Last year, in the corresponding quarter, expenses on VRS was Rs 17.18 crore.
Andrew Yule posts Rs 0.93 crore net loss in first half: Andrew Yule & Co Ltd, the government-owned multiproduct firm, has slipped into the red during the first half ending September 30, 1998, despite reporting a gross profit of Rs 1.24 crore afterinterest but before tax and depreciation. Net sales increased 20.66 per cent to Rs 72.33 crore from Rs 59.86 crore for the corresponding period in 1997-98. Depreciation charged rose to Rs 1.77 crore from Rs 1.52 crore, pushing the company into the red despite the gross profit. Net loss for the first half of 1998-99 was Rs 93 lakh, which is around 46 per cent lower than last year's loss of Rs 1.72 crore. The results were passed at the company's board meeting on October 23.
IFB Sec H1 sales dip to Rs 2.73 lakh: IFB Securities Ltd recorded a 64 per cent drop in sales to Rs 2.73 lakh for the first six months to September 30, 1998, from Rs 7.55 lakh in the corresponding period last year. The company's net loss increased from Rs 23.49 lakh to Rs 29.82 lakh.
Taka Pharmaceuticals board meet on October 30: The board of Taka Pharmaceuticals Ltd will meet on October 30, 1998 to take on record and declare the unaudited financial results for the second quarter ended September 30, 1998, a company releasesaid.
Clariant board meet: The Clariant (India) Ltd board of directors will meet on October 28, 1998, to take on record the unaudited financial results for the first six months ended September 30, 1998, a company release said.
Carborundum Universal H1 net up to Rs 9 crore: Carborundum Universal, the Murugappa-group company, has recorded a 7 per cent rise in the net profit to Rs 9.40 crore, for the first half of the financial year 1998-99, against Rs 8.81 crore in the corresponding period last year. Turnover rose 3.5 per cent, while other income increased 11.4 per cent. Interest costs dropped 13 per cent, while depreciation was up 12.7 per cent.
Mico net trips 20% to Rs 19 crore: Motor Industries Company Ltd (Mico) has reported a 19.58 per cent fall in net profit to Rs 18.64 crore during the quarter ended September 30, 1998, against Rs 23.18 crore during same period last the period. Sales dropped 1.8 per cent to Rs 323.24 crore, against Rs 329.18 crore. Other income stood at Rs 9.38crore (Rs 4.01 crore). The company has also made provision of Rs 13.50 crore (Rs 17 crore) towards taxation during the quarter ended September 30, 1998.
Mysore Kirloskar suffers Rs 5cr net loss: Mysore Kirloskar Ltd has clocked a net loss of Rs 4.92 crore during the quarter ended September 30, 1998, against a net loss of Rs 2.78 crore during the corresponding period last fiscal. The Harihar-based company has also registered an 8 per cent decrease in net sales to report Rs 24.81 crore from Rs 26.98 crore achieved during the quarter ended September 30, 1997. The company has incurred an expenditure of Rs 28.18 crore (Rs 29.82 crore) during the period under review.
IOC chairman elected to board of World LPG Association: Indian Oil Corporation chairman MA Pathan has been elected to the board of the World LPG Association (WLA). The 12-member board was elected by a 126-member general assembly at the 11th World LPG Forum, held in Rome from October 21 to October 23, a release said. WLA, establishedin 1987, promotes the use of liquefied petroleum gas as a safe, versatile, clean and efficient fuel -- both among international bodies and within the industry worldwide.
