Mumbai, Oct 30: Godrej Soaps Ltd has posted a net loss of Rs 7.72 crore for the six months ended September 30, 1998, as against a net profit of Rs 24.29 crore in the same period last year.The company made a loss of Rs 8.73 crore during the second quarter of the current fiscal against a net profit of Rs 25.12 crore in the same period last year. Gross profit before interest, depreciation and tax dropped to Rs 35.27 crore during the first half from Rs 70.84 crore in the same period last year.
Income from operations rose to Rs 424.78 crore during the first half from Rs 401.19 crore in the same period last year.
Other income declined sharply to Rs 36 lakh in the first six months against Rs 129 lakh during the corresponding period last year.
Expenditure jumped to Rs 389.87 crore in the first half from Rs 337.94 crore in the same period last year. Interest and financial charges came down to Rs 32.26 crore from Rs 33.90 crore. Depreciation remained at around Rs 10.66 crore in the first six months of thecurrent fiscal.
For taxation Rs 7 lakh has been provided in the first half against Rs 2.59 crore in the same period last year. Paid-up equity capital of the company has been maintained at Rs 59.79 crore during the first half.
The Godrej Soaps' scrip at the BSE dropped on Friday to Rs 29.65 per share from Thursday's close of Rs 27.80 per share.
