Truck freight rates to fall

Manju Menon
Freight rates for the nine-tonne load vehicles are likely to decrease marginally in the coming week, transporters said.

The fall in the rates to various cities would be directly proportional to the cargo movement and availability of vehicles, they said. "Generally, the cargo movement slows down in the beginning of the month. This pulls down the rates as the market has more vehicles but less cargo to transport", said a Mumbai-based transporter.

In the last week, the maximum fall in the rates was reported from Mumbai to Assam, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The rates to Himachal Pradesh plunged by Rs 300 to Rs 600 during the week. The Mumbai to Delhi rates remained same at Rs 13,700 though few transporters were also quoting Rs 13,500 and Rs 14,000 rates during the week.

While rates to Haryana remained stable, the truck rates to Punjab fell by around Rs 200.

Rates to Lucknow declined by Rs 500 to Rs 14,000. Freight rates to Kanpur and Allahabad fell by Rs 300 each to Rs 13,900.

In thewestern region, Mumbai to Gujarat rates fell in the range of Rs 100 to Rs 300. Madhya Pradesh was the only state to which the rates went up. Mumbai to Satna rates went up for Rs 600 to Rs 12,400 while rates to Jabalpur increased by Rs 500 to Rs 12,000.

Rates to Rajasthan fell by around Rs 600 although rates to Alwar and Bharathpur witnessed an increase of Rs 300-700.

The freight rates from the city to various parts of Maharashtra dropped by Rs 100-200.

In the western region, the rates to Assam decreased substantially. Truck rates to Guwahati declined by Rs 3,800 to Rs 32,000 while rates to Jorhat decreased to Rs 38,000, a whopping Rs 4,500 drop.

Freight to south relatively remained stable in the last week. Rates to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka decreased marginally by Rs 100 to 200. Mumbai to Coimbatore and Salem (in Tamil Nadu) freight rates increased by Rs 200 to Rs 11,00 and Rs 10,500, respectively. Rates to Kerala remained same.
