The Tokyo-based Aiwa Company Ltd intends to take on Sony in the general audio segment in an effort to reach the number one position in the audio market worldwide. The company is also looking at achieving turnover of $5 billion by year 2001. Aiwa is currently a leading player in the mini systems segment.
