Renewed buying interest props Skindia Index 5% to 550 points

Mumbai, Nov 7: The Skindia GDR Index for the week ended November 5 improved by 27.52 points to finish at 550.12 points, up from its previous week's close of 522.60 points. After a relatively dull previous week, the week under review saw some buying interest in the GDR market.

The Skindia GDR Index was up 5.27 per cent at 550.12 points from 522.60 points on October 29. The Skindia GDR Index p/e was up from 14.56 to 15.31 on November 5. During the same period, the Skindia GDR Index premium rose from 8.99 per cent to 16.35 per cent on November 5.

As the GDRs market raced ahead of the domestic markets, the average premiums increased from 1.74 per cent on October 29 to 6.59 per cent on November 5. The average spreads were marginally higher from 10.25 per cent on October 29 to 10.48 per cent on November 5.

The top gainers in the GDR category were JCT Ltd which saw its price rise from $0.75 to $1, a rise of 33.33 per cent, Raymond Woollen from $2.98 to $3.50, up 17.65 per cent and MTNL from $ 10.20 to $11.73,up 14.95 per cent.The top losers during the period were Indo Rama which dropped by 8.33 per cent to $1.65, Spic by 7.69 per cent to $2.40 and SIV Industries by 6.67 per cent to $0.35.

During the week, 60 GDRs on an average appreciated by 2.80 per cent compared with the underlying shares which declined by 1.82 per cent. In GDRs, the telecom sector was the forerunner with an increase of 12.78 per cent, followed by the auto sector which rose by 7.07 per cent and the textile sector which moved up by 4.85 per cent. The only losers in the GDR category were fertilisers with a fall of 2.92 per cent and pharma with a drop of 1.61 per cent.

In the underlying shares, the auto sector was the leader with a rise of 4.38 per cent, with the hotel and pharma being the only sectors giving positive returns of 0.39 per cent each. The top losers in the underlying category included the steel sector with a loss of 7.23 per cent, pharma sector at 6.58 per cent and textile with a loss of 3.28 per cent.

The Skindia GDR Indexhas, over the last 30 days, increased by 3.18 per cent compared to the Sensex which fell by 2.65 per cent. In the last 60 days, the Skindia GDR Index has appreciated by 0.67 per cent as against the Sensex which fell by 4.46 per cent.
