Sydney, Nov 9: Patchy gains by base metals in Australia/Asia trading on Monday held out some hope for slight rises in later London Metal Exchange (LME) trading, traders said.
The general tone for base metals on Monday was of slight gains which still left metal prices short of their closing LME levels on Friday.
This followed gains by base metals, led by copper and nickel, on the LME on Friday. This left three month copper up by $6 on the day at $1,633 a tonne and nickel up $40 at $4,300. An overall steady market in nickel left it at $4,280/$4,300 at about 0200 GMT (1.00 PM) on Monday.
