Ahmedabad, Nov 18: Mobilink, the country's largest paging network with 2.50 lakh customers, will shortly start flashing on pagers the latest updates on scrips and commodities like bullion or metals, coffee or cotton, looking to the regional needs.According to the managing director of DSS Mobile Communications Pravin Kumar, plans are afoot to flash such updates from stock exchanges of Shanghai and Honk Kong too.
He said that Mobilink, which has already provided connectivity to 160 cities in the country through Transet multicity paging, will shortly provide connectivity to all over the globe, with the commissioning of the Iridium paging, promoted by Motorola and in India by VSNL, through a network of 64 satellites around January. The issue is embroiled around the cost as they were asking for one-time payment of $600 and monthly payment of $100.
Kumar also announced the first-ever tie-up with the postal department for providing an exclusive service of collecting Mobilink subscriptions through cash or cheques at 21 main post offices in Ahmedabad. No customer would have to go beyond the nearest post office to pay the bill.
He said similar arrangement could be started by Mobilink through its nine other offices at the metros, besides Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow and Kanpur.
Mobilink had earlier pioneered introducing in the country a privilege card `Clublink', enabling customers to enjoy discounts from a number of shops and stores, `Express paging' directly displaying the telephone number of the caller, `Transet multi-city paging, `Personalised paging' and news flashes (including latest scores of cricket matches).
