Mumbai, Nov 27: Silver hardened further while gold ruled steady in a narrow band and slow volume on the bullion market here today.Silver .999 moved up by Rs 25 to Rs 7,475 per kg. Silver .916 was up by Rs 35 to Rs 7,360 per kg. Industrial and seasonal demand for silver continued while eased supplies arrested fresh offerings by stockists and local bankers. According to trade sources the volume of trading was around 400/500 kg during the day. In the global market silver ruled quiet at $4.93 per ounce.
Standard gold moved in a narrow range and closed steady at Rs 4,330 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat remained unchanged at Rs 4,005 per 10 gm. in sympathy. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) ended quiet at Rs 50,900 per piece. Seasonal demand for gold was lower than expected but tight supplies and rally in the dollar value against rupee has kept offerings limited. In the global market gold slid from $296.50 to $295.80 per ounce.
G'nut oil slides
Groundnut oil reacted further on the oil,oilseeds markethere today. Castorseed and its oil remained weak and commencement of trading in castorseed March delivery featured trading today.
Groundnut oil closed Rs 10 lower at Rs 435 per 10 kg amidst sluggish buying followed by steady supplies from southern centres. In Rajkot prices quoted lower at Rs 635/640 per 15 kg owing to continued new crop supplies.
Imported palm oil slid by Rs 2 to Rs 348 per 10 kg exclusive of tax in absence of buying interest coupled with weak overseas advices. Supplies in the city market however remained restricted today. In the global market palm oil placed lower at $680 per tonne for nearby delivery and $675 for long delivery.
Castor oil edged down by Rs 3 to Rs 414/428 per 10 kg. Castorseed ready fell to Rs 1885/1891 per quintal on renewed new crop supplies. Arrivals of castorseed picked up to 10000/12000 bags in the Gujarat region, it was learnt.
Meanwhile in the futures section castorseed December delivery ended Rs 6 lower at Rs 1664 per quintal on bull unloading ahead ofdelivery period. March delivery opened at Rs 1600.25 and was closed at Rs 1,560 per quintal. In Ahmedabad December delivery placed at Rs 1706 and February delivery at Rs 1538 per quintal. In Rajkot December delivery quoted at Rs 1676 and February delivery at Rs 1551 per quintal.
Cotton bearish
Bearish trend forged further ahead on the cotton market following slack demand, coupled with increased selling pressure.
Arrivals in Punjab zone consisted of 3000 bales of Bengal deshi and 9000 bales of J-34. Bengal deshi price lost Rs 15 to 20 a maund as roller-ginned Punjab were placed at Rs 1500-1520, Haryana at Rs 1520-1525 and Rajasthan at Rs 1520-1535 spot. J-34 saw-ginned good average price declined by Rs 20. Punjab were quoted at Rs 1720-1800, Haryana at Rs 1725-1760 and Rajasthan at Rs 1725-1755. Cart-selected turned cheaper by Rs 10 at Rs 1820-1930 for Punjab, at Rs 1800-1820 for Haryana and at Rs 1770-1790 for Rajasthan.
Other cottons ruled quietly steady with an easy undercurrent. Sanker wereplaced in the range of Rs 18,300-19,500 a candy.
Grains quiet
A very quiet condition continued on the grains market following very low volume of business.
Wheat milling were placed at Rs 740-745 a quintal. North Gujarat Tukadi wheat were on offer at Rs 790-825 and 496 at Rs 800-850. Saurashtra Lokvan ruled at Rs 790-825 and SW at Rs 850-975. MP 147 and Sarbati were traded at Rs 800-850 and at Rs 900-1300 respectively.
Rice Gujarat-17 new were placed at Rs 1650-1700 and old at Rs 1800-1850. Permal Punjab were traded at Rs 850-1050 and superior at Rs 1200-1300.
Among pusles, green peas USA were on offer at Rs 1625 and Canadian at Rs 1075. Kabuli gram A-2 were placed at Rs 3300-3400, B-2 at Rs 2700-2800, C-2 at Rs 2300-2400 and natural at Rs 2500-2600. Australian gram found sellers at Rs 2600. Rajma chitra deshi and imported were quoted at Rs 2400-2500 and at Rs 2100-2200 respectively.
Yarn listless
A listless condition continued on the yarn market following poor demand.
Viscosefilament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn ruled at Rs 217, 120dn at Rs 239, 100dn at Rs 248 and 75dn at Rs 264 a kg.
Polyester yarn grey first quality of medium sized units 80dn rotoset were placed at Rs 78-80 and micro rotoset at Rs 85-87. 80dn weft and warp were on offer at Rs 73-74 and at Rs 84-85 respectively. 80/1000dn at Rs 117-118 and 80/1400dn at Rs 127-128 were maintained on limited supply. 150dn weft were placed at Rs 60-61.
Sugar subdued
Sugar ruled dull-to-subdued as the activity continued to be sluggish.
M-30 were placed at Rs 1445-1500 and S-30 at Rs 1420-1450 a quintal ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost also, M-30 continued to be on offer at Rs 1428-1445 and S-30 at Rs 1405-1425. Pakistani sugar was also static at Rs 1420 inclusive of sales tax.
Mill delivery orders also shed Rs 5 as M-30 were placed at 1385-1390 and S-30 at Rs 1360-1365 in Kolhapur line.
