New Delhi, Dec 2: The Maharashtra government will develop a Rs 100 crore hi-tech park on 150 acres of land at Airoli in Navi Mumbai. The park will house non-polluting industries like information technology and electronics. It is expected to be commissioned by 2000. This was announced by the state industries minister Leeladhar Dake after inaugurating Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC)'s stall at the IT World'98 Comdex India in Delhi.Dake said that the hi-tech park, the Millenium Business Park at Mhape in Navi Mumbai and extended SEEPZ will be connected through dedicated optical fibre lines. The entrepreneurs will get the connectivity at 2 mega byte per second which will be extended in future.
The project will be developed by MIDC, while Exim Bank and SIDBI will be approached for finance. MIDC's Rs 250 crore Millenium Business Park being developed on 2 million square feet will be commissioned in August, 1999. MIDC has confirmed bookings for 1.4 million square feet. Information technologymajors like Mahindra British Telecom, Mastek, Datamatics, COMC, CMS are some of the clients.
MIDC has also planned development of 1 lakh square feet for IT units in extended SEEPZ in north west Mumbai. The centre has cleared the development of a software technology park in Sadar area, Nagpur. Spread over 20,000 square feet, it will be inaugurated by December end.
The state government also has plans to develope Pune as a cyber city. A 200 acre infotech park will be developed at Hinjewadi near Pune, with a connectivity of 2 mega byte per second which will be expanded to SMBPs in future. The Software Technology Park of India and VSNL have agreed to set up an earth station to provide efficient connectivity. IT majors like Infosys, Wipro, MBT have already announced plans to set up base at Hinjewadi.
A knowledge corridor will be developed between Mumbai and Pune through IUNet with a bandwidth of 2.5 giga bytes per second. The Department of Telecommunications has agreed to provide 2,000 lines.
