Gammon India net up to Rs 4 crore: Gammon India Ltd has recorded a higher net profit of Rs 3.71 crore for the six-month period ended September 1998, against Rs 2.97 crore in the corresponding period last year. Profit before tax (PBT) stood at Rs 5.21 crore, against Rs 4.17 crore. Turnover was up to Rs 110.22 crore, as compared with Rs 82.51 crore.Campaigning for a cause: The Advertising Club, Mumbai has joined hands with the Maharashtra Police and Alert Citizen Initiative, a NGO to launch a public service campaign aimed at improving interaction between the police and an alert citizen in the city. The club has recently announced a contest `Save your city' to select the best advertising campaign to effectively deliver the social message. According to Advertising Club president Ramesh Narayan, the best entry would be displayed in the print medium as well as on hoardings. The main objective of the multi-lingual campaign is to encourage the citizens to help police forces in their fight againstcrime.
Audit Bureau of Circulation appointment: The Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) has appointed Hormuzd B Masani as its new chief executive, designated as secretary-general following the retirement of CS Karnik. Masani, 37, is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He was earlier working with Lovelock & Lewes as manager.
Legal conference: Legal eagles will participate at the first Legal Round Table Series in Mumbai on December 8. This first of quarterly series to follow will focus on corporate acquisitions, mergers and restructuring. Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh S Shroff & Co partner Cyril Shroff will moderate the conference. The conference, being organised by Invest India Economic Foundation, will look at the latest changes and loopholes in the takeover code, analyse the experiences under the 1994 regulations and review the impact of the recent buyback regulations.
Gujarat milk federation to expand manufacturing base:The Gujarat Co-operative MilkMarketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) plans to expand its milk product manufacturing capacity to achieve a five-fold growth in turnover to Rs 10,000 crore by 2005. Well-known for its `Amul' brand of dairy products, GCMMF is also making efforts to increase milk procurement, strengthen human resource base and distribution network to become a dominant player in the domestic market and increase its presence in the international market.
HCL bags TVS Suzuki order: HCL Infosystems, a technology integration company, has bagged a repeat order from TVS Suzuki of over 20 workstations for its infiniti global line servers. In addition to the TVS Suzuki order, HCL Infosystems has bagged orders from India's foremost companies for infiniti line range of servers and workstations. The other orders include Hyundai Motors and BPL Systems, a company release said.
