Infotech giants to host ISP summit in Mumbai: Information Technology leaders Microsoft, Compaq, Intel, Cisco and Loral Orion will host a joint ISP summit in Mumbai on December 8. The summit will be inaugurated by S Ramani, director general of National Centre for Software technology, while Microsoft India managing director Sanjay Mirchandani will deliver a keynote address. The summit agenda includes presentations by Microsoft on the Microsoft Commercial Internet System 2.0, Compaq on its hardware solutions for the ISP segment and MCIS integration services, Intel on its technologies for the ISP space, Cisco on its service provider solutions and Loral Orion on its Internet Gateway solutions.

3Com selected for Asian Games: Global networking leader 3Com Corporation in conjunction with systems integrator Samrat Corporation, has been selected by the Asian Games IT committee to be the joint suppliers of an ATM-based network for the 13th Asian Games to be held from December 6. --Com will supply thenetworking hardware while Samrat will build and operate the Games network that links all venues and supports scoring, record keeping, administration, Internet and media applications.

BPL Telcom unveils mini PABX systems: BPL Telecom has launched its new range of mini electronic PABX systems, Prodigy sx. These little wonders targetted at the SOHO market will make communication system simple for traders, professionals, small business organisations and large residence. The latest models 602 sx, 803 sx, 1204 sx and 1606 sx will add to the already existing choice of five models. The features of these wall mountable equipment are 6 to 16 extensions facility, intercom, remote servicing, cyclic hunting of trunks and system power indication. Extension features include direct outward dialing, call transfer for both intercom and trunk calls and call forward on no reply.

IMS teams up with Bunka Orient India: US-based Intuitive Manufacturing Systems Inc (IMS) has entered into a strategic alliance withBunka Orient India (BOI), the Indian arm of Bunka Orient Corporation, Japan to provide ERP/MRP II solutions based on Microsoft technologies through MRP9000, the flagship product of IMS. MRP9000, Year 2000 compliant is designed and priced for small to medium sized manufacturing units that want to make their systems ISO 9000 compliant.

Schiller Healthcare new vision system: Schiller Healthcare India has announced the launch of Medrad's Vision CT injection system in India. A highly efficient Contrast Delivery Injection System for the CT market, Vistron comes with programmable pressure limits and a choice of syringes (125 ml to 200 ml) which are automatically interchangeable. Vistron has an auto fill function which helps doctors save time and effort.

Mathura refinery bags certificate: Indian Oil Corporation's refinery at Mathura has been conferred the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) certification by the Oslo-based Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The 7.5-million-tonne per annumcapacity unit is the only oil refinery in the world to have earned the prestigious certificate, so far, says an Indian Oil release. The Mathura refinery bagged the certificate for its high standards of organisational management systems, stringent safety measures to minimise risks at the workplace and for maintaining good health and hygiene conditions.

JTM announces Go Mobile scheme: JT Mobiles Ltd has introduced a Go Mobile scheme for the Karnataka region. The new scheme involves a Motorola D368 handset priced at Rs 9,000, with a free connection of JTM worth Rs 1,260 and a free airtime worth Rs 2,000. In addition to this, the company has also launched Motorola D160, Alcatel one touch easy and Nokia 5110 with a free connection and free airtime worth Rs 2,000 bundled alongwith each of these handset models, a release said.

Volvo bags Swedish quality award: Volvo Truck Corporation has bagged the 1998 Swedish quality award in the large organisation category. "Quality is a central concept in allour operations. High quality is an absolute precondition for success in an industry that is becoming increasingly competitive," said Volvo Truck Corporation president and CEO Karl-Erling Trogen. Volvo Trucks develops, manufactures and markets medium and heavy trucks for all types of transport application.

Tata IBM extends ThinkPad brand: Tata IBM has extended the ThinkPad brand of notebook PCs with the ThinkPad i series, a mobile computer line designed and priced for individuals, small businesses. The new series offers the signature black form factor and usability features, a company release said. Among the salient features are ergonomic design, active matrix TFT displays, instant audio feature with external CD player controls, Internet scroll bar function and Altec Lansing sound guide speaker technology.

Hindustan Shipyard to construct floating dock: The Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) will construct a new floating dock at wet basin at a cost of Rs 25 crore, according to company CMD rearadmiral RN Bhatia. The existing wet basin and dry dock fetch about Rs 44 crore per annum, he said. The company planned to double the income by augmenting repair facilities.

BHEL bags 2 orders: Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has bagged two orders worth Rs 26 crore for steam turbogenerator (STG) sets from the Bannari Abban Sugars Limited and Gem Sugars in Karnataka. The orders assume significance as the co-generation power plants will gainfully use biogasse-an abundantly available byproduct of the sugar industry, instead of precious coal.
