Pune, Dec 11: Satyam Infoway on Thursday launched its `ready-to-use' Internet service, Satyam Online, in Pune. Satyam's first connection was presented to Arti Kirloskar, consultant (Internet & intranet), Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd by the Mahratta Chamber of Commmerce, Industries & Agriculture president Pratap Pawar.Satyam Infoway vice-president Pradeep Lakshmanan said that he expected around 4,000 connections in Pune by next year. To start with Satyam has started offering connections in six cities and will soon extend it to 12 cities. The service will be marketed via Satyam's all India network consisting of 200 sales partners and 150 retail outlets.
The company will offer the service using a 2 mbps backbone network. Along with the Internet account Satyam is offering eSafe:Protect, a software which will help a subscriber control access to objectionable sites and ViaGrafix which is a multimedial Internet training programme.
SatyamOnline also lets users purchase on the Net using their credit cards. This has been made possible by using the back-office processing technology from its partner Open Market, USA. Renewals and enhancements to the account will be possible through the rupee credit card.
