Gold declines on selling pressure; castor oil spurts

Mumbai, Dec 12: Both the precious metals suffered major losses on the bullion market here today. Standard gold finished Rs 25 lower at Rs 4,300 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat was down by Rs 20 at Rs 3,980 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) dropped by Rs 350 to Rs 50,400 per piece. Seasonal demand was dull and weak overseas advices prompted selling among local stockists and bankers. In the global market the yellow metal fell from $294.45 to $291.10 per ounce.

Silver .999 ended Rs 25 lower at Rs 7,280 per kg. In the ready section silver .916 declined by Rs 45 to Rs 7,155 per kg in sympathy. Industrial demand was dull and weak Delhi and overseas advices put pressure on the prices, dealers said. In the international market silver slid from $4.83 to $4.80 per ounce.

Castor oil spurts

Groundnut oil extended losses on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil spurted in the ready delivery and prices suffered fresh losses in the forward market.

Groundnut oil finished Rs 5 lowerat Rs 430 per 10 kg amidst sluggish demand and steady inflow from southern centres. Resumption of supplies from Gujarat region also weakened the market sentiment, dealers said. In Rajkot prices fell by Rs 5 to Rs 650 per 15 kg.

Imported palm oil finished Rs 2 lower at Rs 345 per 10 kg exclusive of tax on account of thin buying enquiries coupled with weak trend in the global market. January delivery however was however quoted higher at Rs 349 per 10 kg.

Castor oil shot up by Rs 6 to Rs 387/401 per 10 kg on fresh overseas support. Castorseed ready rose from Rs 1727/1733 to Rs 1756/1762 per quintal in sympathy.

In the futures section castorseed March delivery closed Rs 9 lower at Rs 1,454 per quintal on renewed bear selling on expectation of rise in the new crop supplies in the coming days, according to floor sources.

In Ahmedabad February delivery closed lower at Rs 1494 and in Rajkot at Rs 1486 per quintal.

Milling wheat gains

Milling wheat price firmed up afresh on the grains market.Elsehwere, a steady condtion prevailed.

On reserved selling propelled by firm producing centre advices the price of milling wheat netted fresh gains of Rs 10 a quintal at Rs 790-795. Other wheat were well-held at previous improved levels.

North Gujarat Tukadi were placed at Rs 790-811, 496 at Rs 825-850 and Lokvan at Rs 800-850. Saurashtra Lokvan and SW were sought after at Rs 850-900 and at Rs 875-1000 respectively. Ganganagar wheat were traded at Rs 865-875, MP 147 ruled at Rs 850-900 and Sarbati in the range of Rs 900-1300.Rice Perimal Punjab found sellers at Rs 850-900 while superior Perimal were quoted at Rs 1200-1300. Gujarat-17 rice were mentioned at Rs 1600-1800.Among pulses, green peas USA ruled at Rs 1600 and Canadian at Rs 940-945. Gram Australian were placed at Rs 1500-1550. Kabuli gram A-2 were quoted at Rs 3000-3100, B-2 at Rs 2700-2800 and C-2 at Rs 2200-2300.

Sugar unchanged

A steady trend prevailed on the sugar market. Activity was modest.M-30 were placed at Rs 1471-1535 andS-30 at Rs 1445-1475 a quintal ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost, M-30 were on offer at Rs 1460-1475 and S-30 at Rs 1435-1445.

Tenders for the current fortnight were over. Delivery orders of M-30 were traded at Rs 1410-1420 and of S-30 at Rs 1390-1400 in Kolhapur line, also depicting steady conditions.

Cotton steady

Cotton ruled unchanged in restricted trading.

Sanker average ruled at Rs 18,000-19,000 and superior at Rs 19,500-20,300 a candy spot. V-797 ruled at Rs 16,000-16,300.

In Punjab zone, J-34 saw-ginned good average were placed in the range of Rs 1685-1790 and cart selected at Rs 1800-1940 a maund spot. J-34 roller-ginned ruled at Rs 1600-1660. Bengal deshi roller-ginned were mentioned at Rs 1530-1570.

No trading was reported in futures.

Yarn listless

A listless condition continued on the yarn market.

Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn ruled at Rs 217, 120dn at Rs 239, 100dn at Rs 248 and 75dn at Rs 264 a kg. 120dn dull cones were placedat Rs 247.

Nylon yarn Shreelon 15/1/0dn were placed at Rs 240 and 20/1/0dn at Rs 230. Gujnil 30/1/0dn and 111/24/0dn were mentioned at Rs 290 and at Rs 157 respectively.

Delhi

Black pepper golden shot up by Rs 500 at Rs 21,500 a quintal as leading zamindars of Kerala were reported to holding stock in the expectation of further spurt in prices.

Cardamom brown, recorded sharp rise of Rs 300-500 a quintal as arrival was hit hard because of Friday strike by serveral trade unions workers. Cardamom small and tamarind revealed an easy tendency. Stock of tamarind was reported more than one lakh bags.
