Core sector needs $200 bn, says IIF 

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA  
New Delhi, Dec 18: India requires $200 billion to develop infrastructure in the country which is not possible without an appropriate perspective plan, Indian Institute of Finance (IIF) has said.

The development of infrastructure is necessary for the country to develop its core competencies to compete with the rest of the world, it said.

To discuss this and other issues, the institute is organising a two-day seminar which would be addressed by former finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, former planning minister YK Alagh and chief vigilance commissioner N Vittal among others.

Session on infrastructure will be addressed by chairman and managing director of National Housing Bank K Jairaj, Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco) chairman and managing director V Suresh, director (finance) of Power Grid Corporation VK Garg and journalist Prem Shankar Jha.

The seminar, which begins on December 21, will also deliberate on issues such as restructuring on banking and financial systems, financialreengineering and financing agriculture.
