December 20: Freight rates for nine-tonne load vehicles are likely to firm up in the coming week, according to transporters."The truck rates to northern sector will rise by around Rs 200 to Rs 500 in the next week", said a Mumbai-based transporter while attributing the proposed hike to an increase in the cargo movement.
In the last week, the rates to Jammu & Kashmir witnessed an increase in the range of Rs 200 to Rs 400. The rates to Himachal Pradesh remained more or less steady although some transporters were quoting higher rates (Rs 17,000) for Mumbai to Parmanu and Sholan routes.
The freight rates to Delhi remained same at Rs 12,000. Consequently, the rates to Haryana and Punjab also did not fluctuate. These states witnessed a marginal decrease of around Rs 100 to Rs 200.
Rates from Mumbai to cities in the western region showed a drop varying Rs 100 to Rs 300, except for certain places like Surat, katni, Pune and Nagpur which showed a slight increase.
The truck rates to Assam went up in therange of Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500. The rates to Guwahati were pegged at Rs 31,500 with some transporters also quoting Rs 33,500.
Freight rates to Siliguri increased by Rs 1,000 to Rs 23,000 while rates to remaining cities in West Bengal moved in the narrow band of Rs 100 to Rs 200. The rates to Orissa remained steady except for Sambalpur to which truck rates declined by Rs 500 to Rs 12,000.
The freight rates to south increased by around Rs 400 in the last week. The truck rate to Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Coimbatore ( Tamil Nadu) and Trichur ( Kerala) increased by Rs 400 each to Rs 7,200, Rs 12,000 and Rs 13,600, respectively.
While the rates to Bangalore (karnataka), Salem (Tamil Nadu) and Cochin ( kerala) went up by Rs 500 each to Rs 9,000, Rs 11,300 and Rs 13,500, respectively.
