Dec 20: Union law and company affairs minister Thumbi Durai on Sunday said that the centre would amend the Companies Act during the budget session of parliament. Addressing a meet at the Southern India Regional Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Durai said that an amended bill on inter-corporate investments would be introduced in the current session of parliament.

He appealed to chartered accountants to pay greater attention to increasing efficiency at all levels in the national economy and not to allow any laxity in ethical standards. Vinay Mruthyunjaya, chairman of the Bangalore branch of the institute, said some 1,060 delegates had attended the conference, said to be the largest-ever meet of its kind.
