Mumbai, Dec 24: Sugar subdued A dull-to-slightly subdued trend prevailed on the sugar market following demand losing momentum. M-30 were on offer at Rs 1480-1537 and S-30 at Rs 1470-1490 a quintal ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost, M-30 were unchanged at Rs 1480-1495 while S-30 shed Rs 5 and were quoted at Rs 1455-1470.
In tenders, M-30 were indicated at Rs 1435-1445 and S-30 at Rs 1415-1425 in Kolhapur line.
Cotton mixed
A narrowly mixed trend was in evidence on the cotton market. In Punjab zone, Bengal deshi Punjab eased from Rs 1525-1550 to Rs 1500-1540 a maund spot on increased offerings. Haryana at Rs 1520-1525 and Rajasthan at Rs 1550-1565 were quiet. J-34 saw ginned were marginally better.
Good average Punjab were placed at Rs 1690-1790, Haryana at Rs 1700-1750 and Rajasthan at Rs 1700-1730. Cart selected goods fetched Rs 1805-1950, Rs 1790-1813 and Rs 1745-1785 respectively. J-34 roller-ginned were on offer in the range of Rs 1600-1675. Arrivals consited of 3500 bales ofBengal deshi and 12,000 bales of J-34.
Sanker firmed up on improved buying support and ruled in the range of Rs 18,500-20,500 a candy, up by Rs 200. Exceptional lots fetched even Rs 21,000. Other cottons ruled steady.
Meanwhile, demand has been active in the Maharashtra federation cotton. Its old cotton was met with encouraging buying support. Besides, it has hiked the price of its current season goods by Rs 300 in the case of long staple and by Rs 200 of medium staple items. This was done by giving a counter offer against the buying offer of 50,000 bales.
In futures, February contract ruled throughout the session at Rs 4901, losing 7 points. April, likewise, ruled at Rs 5000, marginally weak.
Yarn steady
A quietly steady condition prevailed in viscose and nylons on the yarn market.
Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn were placed at Rs 217, 120dn at Rs 239, 100dn at Rs 248 and 75dn at Rs 263 a kg. 120dn dull cones were on offer at Rs 247.
Nylon yarnShreelon 15/1/0dn were placed at Rs 240 and 20/1/0dn at Rs 230. Gujnil 20/1/0dn were traded at Rs 220 and 30/1/0dn at Rs 290.
Milling wheat dips
A sharp drop in the price of milling wheat provided main feature of trading on the grains market.
Milling wheat price fell from Rs 790-795 to Rs 765-775 a quintal following expectation of commencement of delivery by the FCI to the roller-flour mills. Wheat north Gujarat Sonaklyan were placed at Rs 815-825, Tukadi at Rs 835-855, Lokvan at Rs 835-860 and 496 at Rs 850-900.
Rice Gujarat-17 were placed at Rs 1600-1800.
Bullion declines
Gold ruled weak while silver lost gained ground on the bullion market here today. Standard gold fell by Rs 25 to Rs 4,220 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat was down by Rs 20 at Rs 3,905 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) dropped by Rs 200 at Rs 49,400 per piece. Seasonal demand was lower than expected while setback in the global prices put pressure on the local market, dealers said. In the overseas marketgold declined from $288 to $286.50 per ounce.
Silver .999 on the other hand eased by Rs 25 at Rs 7,325 per kg. Silver .916 was down by Rs 10 at Rs 7,265 per kg in sympathy. Industrial demand for silver was dull while weak Delhi advices triggered offerings among local stockists. In the global market the white metal ruled quiet at $4.90/4.91 per ounce.
Groundnut oil ruled easy on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil spurted following continued covering by bears and shippers.
Groundnut oil moved down by Rs 3 to Rs 415 per 10 kg amidst thin buying interest. In Rajkot prices finished Rs 5 lower at Rs 645 per 15 kg.
Imported palm oil looked up by a rupee at Rs 335 per 10 kg exclusive of tax on news of recovery in the global market. In the overseas market palm oil placed higher at $635 per tonne for nearby delivery on fresh buying by State Trading Corporation of India. STC has bought about 11000/12000 tonnes of palm oil in the international market, it was learnt.
Castor oil edged upby a rupee to Rs 399/413 per 10 kg on steady buying by shippers. Castorseed ready closed Rs 5 higher at Rs 1813/1819 per quintal in sympathy.
In the futures section castorseed March delivery climbed from Rs 1478 to Rs 1486 before concluding at Rs 1479 per quintal. December delivery remained absent from trading today.
In Gujarat castorseed ready delivery looked up at Rs 348/350 per 20 kg and castor oil at Rs 382 per 10 kg. Arrivals of castorseed in the Gujarat region was placed at 20000/22000 bags today.
