Truck rates may stabilise

Mumbai: Freight rates for nine-tonne load vehicles are likely to remain steady in the week ahead, transporters said.

During the last week, the truck rates from Mumbai to most of the cities in northern, eastern and southern states firmed up, thanks to a brisk cargo movement.

The rates to Srinagar went up by Rs 300 to Rs 20,500. The freight rates to Shimla too firmed up by Rs 300 to Rs 16,800. The rates to remaining places in Himachal Pradesh increased by Rs 200.

The freight rates to Delhi stabilised at Rs 12,000 at the week-end although some truck operators were reportedly quoting even Rs 11,500 and Rs 12,300 during the week. While, rates to Haryana remained unchanged, the truck rates to Punjab witnessed an increase ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 400.

Rates to Bihar moved up in the range of Rs 100 to Rs 1,000. The maximum rise was to Hazari Bagh ( Rs 1,000 jump to touch Rs 18,500) while rates to Patna increased by Rs 200 to Rs 18,800. In the western region, the rates witnessed a mixed trend withfluctuations varying from Rs 100 to Rs 500. While, truck rates to Gujarat remained steady, the rates to Maharashtra declined marginally. The rates to Rajasthan witnessed an increase of Rs 400 to Rs 700.

Truck rates to most of the eastern places increased by around Rs 200 to Rs 300. The rates to Calcutta increased by Rs 400 to Rs 19,700. Freight rates to Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar ( both in Orissa) increased by Rs 200 each to Rs 14,200 and Rs 14,500, respectively.

In south, freight rates to Vijaywada and Hyderabad increased marginally by Rs 200 each to Rs 9,600 and Rs 7,400, respectively.

Truck rates to Karnataka more or less remained steady. The rates to Tamil Nadu and Kerala increased in the region of Rs 200 to Rs 900. The freight rates to Chennai went up by Rs 900 to Rs 12,700.

Rates to Cochin rose by Rs 700 to Rs 14,200 while rates to Calicut jumped by Rs 600 to Rs 13,100.
