Mumbai, Dec 27: The 11th cardamom and black pepper auction of the season 1998-99 held last week at the Agriculture Produce Market Commission (APMC) market yard in Navi Mumbai fetched a maximum price of Rs 880 per kg.
Total quantity of cardamom offered at the auction was 5,627.300 kilogram, while there was no offering of black pepper. Out of the total cardamom offered, 3,176.500 kg was by way of fresh arrivals, while 646.200 kg was carried over from the previous auction.
A total quantity of 4,534.500 kg cardamom was sold and the balance 1,092 kg was withdrawn as the price failed to touch the benchmark.
The maximum price offered for cardamom was Rs 880 per kg, and the minimum price was Rs 640 per kg. The average price for cardamom worked out to be Rs 719.38 per kilogram for cardamom.
So far, against total fresh arrivals of 91,703 kg of cardamom, 81,806 kg was auctioned fetching an average of Rs 312.97 per kilogram. Similarly, in the eight auctions for black pepper were held last year which fetching anaverage price of Rs 223.99 per kg.
Cardamom was offered by AV Thomas group, Ernakul Estate, Kardigudi Estate, Pashupara Estate, Chulika Estate, Woodbree Estate and Tata Tea at the auction.
