Mumbai, Dec 30: The Rs 100-crore Rolta India will apply to the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) for E1 line connectivity with a bandwidth of 2 mega byte per second (Mbps) to launch its services as Internet service provider from March 1999.Rolta, which has received the ISP licence from the department of telecommunications (DoT) last week, will invest over Rs 20 crore in the first phase. The company will focus on provision of value-added services to nearly 25,000 subscriber base comprising corporate and home segments. The corporate clients will be serviced directly by the company while home users will be srviced by a franchisee network.
Company sources told The Financial Express that Rolta was also holding talks with the Software Technology Park of India (STPI), an autonomous society under the department of electronics (DoE) for providing connectivity. However, the company will go in for VSNL connectivity as it will take at least three months to acquire STPI connectivity.
Rolta will set up WindowsNT and use the Microsoft Commercial Internet System to provide value-added services like web-page designing, setting up web servers and web hosting in addition to connectivity.
