Truck rates set to fall

Mumbai, Jan 4: Freight rates for nine-tonne load vehicles may fall marginally in the coming week, according to transporters.

During the week-end, the truck rates from Mumbai to most of the cities fell by around Rs 500. In the northern sector, rates to Jammu decreased by Rs 300 to Rs 17,000.

While the rates to Shimla and Shimoga ( in Himachal Pradesh) decreased by Rs 300 and Rs 400 to settle at Rs 16,500 and Rs 16,000, the rates to Parmanu and Sholan increased by Rs 1,000 and Rs 800.

While the truck rates to Delhi plunged to Rs 11,500, registering a dip of Rs 500 during week-end, the rates were hovering at Rs 12,000 throughout the last week.

Consequent to the fall in Delhi rates, the freight rates to Haryana decreased in the range of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 while rates to some cities in Punjab declined by Rs 300 to Rs 700.

The freight rates to Bihar, like Haryana, also dipped in the range of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. Rates to Patna were down by Rs 1,000 to Rs 17,800 while rates to Muzaffarpur dipped by Rs 800to Rs 19,000.

The truck rates to Lucknow, Kanpur and Varanasi (in Uttar Pradesh) increased by Rs 300-500. rates to the remaining cities in the state dipped by Rs 200-500.

In the western region, except for Maharashtra to which the rates remained steady, the freight rates decreased in the region of Rs 200-300.Guwahati was the worst hit in the eastern sector as the rates to the state declined by Rs 500 to Rs 2,300. Truck rates to West Bengal also saw a dip of Rs 700-1,200.

Rates to Andhra Pradesh remained same except for Hyderabad to which freight rates declined by Rs 600 to settle at Rs 6,800. The rates to Karnataka also reported a marginal fluctuation of Rs 100-300.

The truck rates to Chennai and Salem ( in Tamil Nadu) decreased by Rs 200 and Rs 300 to Rs 12,500 and Rs 11,700.

The rates to Kerala reported a marginal fall of Rs 100-200.
