Baku, Jan 5: Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR produced 9.05 million tonnes (around 180,000 barrels per day) of crude in 1998, up from the target of 9.0 million tonnes, the head of SOCAR's economic planning department said on Tuesday."We planned to produce nine million tonnes of oil in 1998, but have passed that goal by a small amount and have produced 9.05 million tonnes," Galina Kuleshova said.
Kuleshova said that in December 1998, Socar produced 747,100 tonnes of oil (around 175,000 barrels per day), up 1.3 percent from November. She added that natural gas production was also up in December, by 6.4 percent to 488.1 million cubic metres.
Total natural gas production for 1998 was down 6.3 percent from 1997, to 5.59 billion cubic metres.
