New Delhi, Jan 6: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance met here on Wednesday to review the amendments being carried out in the Securities Contract Regulation Act (SCRA) by which trading in derivatives will be allowed in the country. As an enabling provision, the amendment also seeks to scrap the ban on forward trading, which was imposed by the Govenment earlier.
The SCRA amendment bill was referred to the standing committee by parliament. The committee's views, if different from the amendment bill, will have to be taken into consideration by the Government, and fresh cabinet sanction obtained.
More often than not though, standing committees normally do not suggest changes on technical amendments of the kind sought to be made in the SCRA.
