IBM to open training centres: Global computer giant IBM's Indian subsidiary plans to set up 20 more education centres in the country by the year-end to enable students keep phase with the developments in the information technology sector. The centres would be established in collaboration with local companies, general manager (education and training) of the IBM Global Services India Ltd NN Khurana said. He said training programmes on new facilities, including e-commerce, e-business, besides higher studies on internet and net-work securities would be offered by the existing 20 education centres in the near future.

Texas Instruments unveils chips: Texas Instruments (TI) India launched two modern chips designed entirely in the country. The chips have been architected, designed and developed by engineers in the mixed signal design centre at TI India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Texas Instruments Inc, company officials said.

The key applications of the chips include modems, low speed data communications such as ATMs, security systems, gaming and point of sale terminals, metering and embedded voice band applications, managing director Srini Rajam said.

MIL changes name: Shareholders of Maharaja International Ltd (MIL) on Thursday approved the change in the name of the company to Electrolux Kelvinator Ltd (EKL).

The name change was approved at the company's extraordinary general meeting. "Necessary applications will now be made to the registrar of companies for their approval," the company said in a statement.

MIL, a subsidiary of Swedish multinational giant AB Electrolux since February 1995, has been manufacturing refrigerators under the Kelvinator brand name with technical and managerial support from AB ELectrolux.

Samsung forays into low-end audios: Korean major Samsung India Electronics Limited (SIEL) on Wednesday launched its 1300 watt mini component audio system with the `unique' sound retrieval system. Priced at Rs 17,500, the `Max 860' model joins the three existing compact disc-based Samsung audio products which fall within the price range of Rs 9,000-17,500. "We will be further expanding our audio range this year by introducing four more contemporary audio systems in the mini segment in the second quarter this year," said SIEL managing director KS Kim. The max 860 system comes equipped with `SRS' feature which obviates any optimum listening position by ensuring three-dimensional effect, uses only two conventional stereo speakers.

Morarjee Mills launches contest: Morarjee Mills, the Ajay Piramal-owned textile company, has announced an annual design contest, called "The Morarjee Mills Contest for Design Innovation and Excellence". "The contest is an attempt to nurture and reward young talent in textile and fashion design," says a company release. A total of 69 institutes including the various NIFT schools will participate in the contest.

Bombay Dyeing board to meet: A meeting of the board of directors of the Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company Ltd will be held on January 25, 1999 at 2.30 pm at the company's registered office in Mumbai to take on record the unaudited financial results (provisional) for the quarter ended December 31, 1998.

Premier Auto Electric board: The meeting of the board of directors of Premier Auto Electric Ltd will be held at the registered office of the company on January 23, 1999 to consider the unaudited financial results for the quarter ended December 31, 1998.

Clariant Board: The meeting of the board of directors of Clariant (India) Limited will be held on Thursday, January 21, to take on record the unaudited financial results for the quarter ended December 31, 1998.
