SAP India drags unauthorised training centres to court

Our Bureau
Bangalore, Jan 14: SAP India, through the Delhi high court on December 10, 1998 served ex parte interim injunctions against two organisations - Padmaja Electronics Pvt Ltd and KT Pathfinders Pvt Ltd - in Hyderabad for imparting unauthorised training on SAP R/3 and selling pirated software.

These two organisations through the court order were restrained from copying, selling and offering for sale the programmes belonging to the plaintiffs and/or in any manner infringing the copy right of the plaintiffs in the said programme.

The action comes as a course of SAP India's strategic plan to tackle issue related to illegal ownership and illegitimate use of its products for training, a company press release said here on Thursday.

With the issue of piracy of R/3 software, its selling through unscrupulous means to buyers and its unauthorised use for imparting training showing an alarming increase, SAP India was forced to resort to legal actions to prevent its from proliferating.

``Over last one year, we have been receiving complaints from candidates on the low quality of training being provided by some institutes offering courses in SAP R/3,'' SAP Indian Subcontinent executive vice president Rokiah Ahamed said.

``We also found that people trained from these institutes were not capable of operating on our software systems and were not getting appropriate jobs despite commitments of placements made by them,'' he added.

In the raid, the local commissioner seized the pirated software and manuals. The Hyderabad-based companies were using CD writers to make pirated versions of the R/3 programmes, he said.
