Our Bureau: Freight rates for nine-tonne load vehicles are likely to remain unchanged in the week ahead, transporters say. Last week, rates from Mumbai to northern states like Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana went up in the range of Rs 300 to Rs 500 due to severe weather conditions and good cargo movement.Rates to Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh remained steady due to poor cargo movement and shortage of vehicles. The Mumbai to Delhi rates went up by Rs 200 to Rs 12,400. Consequent to the increase in Delhi rates, the rates to Punjab and Haryana too moved north-wards in the band of Rs 100 to Rs 500. Severe cold in the northern region was responsible for increasing the freight rates to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
In the western sector, the truck rates to Gujarat remained same. Rates to Madhya Pradesh saw an upward movement ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 500. While rates to Maharashtra remained steady, freight rates to Rajasthan went up by around Rs 700. Mumbai to Jaipur rates increased by Rs 700to Rs 9,500.In the eastern region, rates generally looked up due to good cargo movement. Rates to Assam went up by Rs 500. Rates to Raniganj and Siliguri ( in West Bengal) went up by Rs 1,500 to Rs 21,000 and Rs 500 to Rs 23,000, respectively.
In the southern sector the maximum increase in truck rates was reported to Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The rates went up to these states as movement of goods improved on account of the festive season of Pongal, a transporter said.
Rates to Chennai went up by Rs 500 to 12,000. Freight rates to Cochin jumped by Rs 1,300 to Rs 14,500. While rates to Trichur increased by Rs 700 to Rs 14,000, rates to Trivandrum remained same.
While rates to Karnataka remained steady, truck rates to Vishakhapatnam increased by Rs 900 to Rs 11,500.
