Lukewarm response to IT 'Asia

Our Corporate Bureau
New Delhi, Feb 12: Nasscom-Mait-CII-IT Asia '99 opened to a lukewarm response on Friday in spite of the joint effort of the three top industry associations.

Though the show is boasted to showcase complete end-to-end solutions available in the industry for the end-users, there are hardly any companies present. Almost all the top names in IT industry seem to have given the show a go by.

Several of those who are present seem to merely maintain a token presence. Nasscom and Mait themselves have an apology of a presence for a fair that was billed as the most important by them. Consequently, the visitor response too seemed to be very lukewarm on Friday.

Declared open by union minister of communications Jagmohan, IT Asia is being organised concurrently with six other industrial fairs at the India Engineering Trade Fair (IETF) at Pragati Maidan in the capital between February 12 to 17.

``Our vision is to establish India as an IT superpower and I am confident you all will contribute towards achieving thisgoal,'' Jagmohan told the participants after cutting the ceremonial red tape.

Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (Mait) and National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) have joined ranks for the first time with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for holding the fair.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Mait president Ram N Agarwal said, ``This show is an endeavour to bring the IT industry and the end users on a common platform. We are delighted to give the end users an opportunity to update themselves with the developing technologies and also provide the IT industry the much-needed feedback for fine-tuning their products and solutions to the needs of the users.''

The scope of this show extends not only to the latest technologies available today and displayed by the exhibitors, but also provides a perspective on future technologies through the power-packed Vision Seminars,'' remarked Mait exhibition committee chairman Manu Parpia.
