MUMBAI, FEB 21: The change in freight rates in the coming fortnight for the nine-tonne load vehicle from Mumbai to the rest of the country will depend on the announcements made in the budget on February 27, 1999, transporters said.The rates will fall on an average five to 10 per cent, if there is any adverse impact of the budget on the corporate sector, said another transporter.
In the last week the movement of cargo from Mumbai to most of the states did not slow down. In effect improving the rates to some places in the process. The rates to Jammu and Kashmir increased by Rs 300 to Rs 500 except for Srinagar to which rates were Rs 23,800, arise of Rs 300. Rates to Baramulla went up by Rs 500 to Rs 21,500. Rates to Himachal Pradesh remained steady during the week.
The rates to Delhi too remained unchanged between Rs 13,000 and Rs 13,500. As a result the rates to Haryana and Punjab remained more or less in tight range. Truck rates to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh increased in the region Rs 1,000 Rs 1,300. Therates to patna were at Rs 19,700 a rise of Rs 700 over previous week. While rates to Lucknow and Kanpur went up by Rs 700 to Rs 14,200 and Rs 13,000 respectively.
In the western region rates to Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh ruled in steady range. Rates to Rajasthan moved in the Rs 100 to Rs 300 range. Freight rates to Jaipur went up by Rs 300-9,800.
The rates to eastern states firmed up during the last week. Truck rates to Guwahati increased buy Rs 2,000 to Rs 35,000, while rates to Jorhat went up by Rs 1,000 to Rs 40,000.
Mumbai-Raniganj rates increased by Rs 500 to Rs 20,500 while rates to Calcutta increased by Rs 1,000 to Rs 21,000. The rates from Mumbai to cities in Maharashtra remained same.
The rates to Orissa went up in the band of Rs 100 to Rs 400.
Due to improvement in cargo movement the rates to southern region firmed up. Rates to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka showed a marginal improvement of Rs 100 to Rs 200. Rates to Chennai went up by Rs 300 to Rs 12,800, while rates to Coimbatore firmed upby Rs 200 to 12,700. The truck rates to Cochin increased by Rs 14,300, while rates to Trivandrum remained same.
