MUMBAI, FEB 25: The 21st century would witness promotion of new ideas with the aid of cheap and efficient communication and microminiaturisation, according to director of National Centre for Software Technology, S Ramani.Addressing scientists of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) here on Thursday, Ramani said, "the growth of new ideas will surpass the real limits of material and energy." One of the major developments expected was the electromagnetic isolation where there would be "no cross talk" with the use of optical fibre, he said. He also predicted a great leap in machine intelligence and new technologies, which would include highly reliable computers, fibre optic systems using lasers, computer graphics creating virtual reality and machine intelligence.
The optical fibre with a capacity of up to 2500 mhz perfibre would be adequate to carry 40,000 simultaneous voice calls using two fibres, one working in each direction.
