New Delhi, Mar 17: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 52.35 crore for removing infrastructural bottlenecks in the way of exports under the critical infrastructure balance scheme administered by the commerce ministry.The financial support will cover 43 projects in 15 states on the basis of proposals received from various state governments since the inception of the scheme in 1997.An official release said the scheme is part of the drive to boost exports through export facilitation with particular emphasis on infrastructural constraints. The scheme covers investments which are in the nature of exigencies or emergencies and which could not be foreseen as part of the annual plan scheme proposals.
Broadly, the scheme covers any investment required for quicker and strategic removal of bottleneecks and for general export facilitation. The investment must reflect its linkage to export promotion.
The projects for which funds have been sanctioned under the scheme covers Andhra Pradesh (4), Goa (1), Kerala (4),Karnataka (1), Maharashtra (1), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Madhya Pradesh (2), Rajasthan (3), Uttar Pradesh (8), West Bengal (5), Tamil Nadu (2), Gujarat (1), Tripura (2), Orissa (4) and Assam (2).
Of the Rs 52.35 crore sanctioned under the scheme so far, Rs 10.85 crore and Rs 25.50 crore were made available during 1996-97 and 1997-98, respectively. Till January 1999, the amount sanctioned for 1998-98 was Rs 16 crore.The revised estimates for 1998-99 is Rs 28 crore and the entire mount would be released during this financial year.
