Mumbai, April 8: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has disbursed Rs 356.55 crore as refinance during the financial year ended March 1999 for bank loan extended to activities of minor irrigation, farm mechanisation, dairy development, plantation and horticulture in Maharashtra. Out of the total disbursement to these sectors, the commercial banks share the maximum of disbursements stood at a high Rs 202.06 crore (57%) followed by Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank at Rs 126 (35%) crore and regional rural banks at Rs 28.48 crore (8%).
"Nabard has been able to fulfil the targets set by union finance minister in his budget for 1998-99 for the state of Maharashtra," said a bank release issued recently.
The bank achieved its target of refinance registering a growth of 7 per cent during 1998-99. The bank disbursed Rs 40 crore to employment generating programme of rural non farm sector registering a 87 per cent growth.
According to the bank release, Maharashtra State CooperativeAgriculture and Rural Development Bank failed to clear its default to Nabard which is why it was not accommodated for refinance support.
The bank also disbursed Rs 69 crore forming 19 per cent of the total refinance disbursement to poverty alleviation programmes like IRDP and a sum of Rs 15 crore under special scheme for scheduled caste and scheduled tribes of the state during the period.
In Vidarbha districts, the refinance disbursements by bank was pegged at Rs 55.21 crore. The bank exceeded its allocation by Rs 27 crore with an all time high disbursement of over Rs 11 crore in Nagpur district as against the target of Rs 7.61 crore, registering an over achievement by about 47 per cent during the period.
Under the short term credit for seasonal agricultural operations (crop loan) the bank sanctioned Rs 230 crore to MSCB and Rs 51 crore to regional rural banks in Maharashtra.
