Green Berg: A natural resort for training?

KA Martin
Kochi, Apr 28: Realising that resilience is the means to beat a recession, the Green Berg group has decided to step out of the cloister of Kerala's hotel and tourism industry -- and is instead positioning its new property as the ultimate nature resort for corporate training.

In a bit to offer an off-beat but reasonably priced venue for corporate training, Green Berg is commissioning a state-of-the-art resort at Nadukani. Situated 3,000-metres above sea level, Nadukani is a two-hour drive from the upcoming international airport near Kochi. Green Berg's Rs 2.5 crore project is coming up on a 75-acre plot dotted with hills, streams and valleys, and is expected to be commissioned towards the end of this year.

Green Berg's USP, however, will be the unspoilt natural beauty surrounding the area. The group plans to promote the training venue by offering managers the lure of taking a dip in the crystal clear lakes, breathe fresh air, walk through paddy fields, eat organically grown vegetables, and at the end ofthe day take refuge in the environment-friendly cottages packed with comforts of modern life, says C J Augustine, chairman of the group.

In the first phase of the project, there will be 17 cottages. Determined to be politically-correct, Green Berg also has the unique idea of being a self-sustaining resort. The food that will be offered at the resort will be entirely grown in its own farms and gardens. ``Vegetables and fruits, meat, eggs, fish and milk served here will be entirely produced by us within the area,'' says Augustine pointing to the surrounding farms that are coming up.

The first part of the project, the Green Berg Resource Facility Centre, is expected to go on stream next month. ``This will be one of the best tranining facilities corporate executives and for holding refresher courses,'' says Mathews George, director of the facility. ``Unlike the current room-bound meetings, Green Berg will offer a facility for the corporate denizens to recharge themselves with open-air conferences andbeautiful locations,'' he said.
