Senbo ropes in German firm for diversification

Dilip Bisoi
BHUBANESWAR, May 10: The Calcutta-based Senbo Group has appointed German consultancy firm Pharma Plan to help the group diversify into pharmaceutical products.

``We plan to get into new pharmaceutical formulations to expand our product range,'' Senbo Group director Kinsuka Sengupta said. He said that the group roped in the services of Pharma Plan, a subsidiary of Freseneus, to advise in selecting the new formulations.

Group company Senbo Industries is engaged in the manufacture of high-quality IV fluid.

Sengupta said the group proposed to consolidate its position in pharmaceuticals, civil constructions, and hotel business in the years to come. Senbo Engineering Ltd, the group's core company, is eyeing two contracts this year. It is vying with construction majors like Bridge & Roof, Larsen & Toubro, Afcon, and Gammon to bag the Rs 60-crore flyover contract here. It is also in the race for the Rs 58-crore Rajarhat New Calcutta township contract, Sengupta said.

Senbo planned to set up a three-star hotelhere, Sengupta said. The group also proposes to undertake a Rs 15-crore expansion project of Hotel Garden Inn in Bhubaneswar. Under the expansion plan, 56 rooms will be added, along with creation of facilities like swimming pool, health club, shopping arcade, and additional restaurants.

The Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) has sanctioned Rs 8 crore for the project.

Sengupta was here recently to resolve the crisis in Hotel Garden Inn, where the management has declared a lockout following labour unrest.
