New Delhi, May 17: National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has taken over two mega hydro power projects in Arunachal Pradesh. As per directives of the central government, NHPC has taken over Subansiri Upper Dam Project and Dehang Upper Dam project from the Brahmaputra Board. Discussions to this effect were concluded recently between chairman and managing director of NHPC Yogendra Prasad and chairman of Brahmaputra Board KS Rana.The proposed Dehang Upper Dam multi-purpose project at Pugging in Siang basin has an installed capacity of about 10975 mw and is situated about 14 kms upstream of Yinkiong. The total power potential of this basin is 13,400 mw. The Subansiri Upper Dam Multipurpose Project at Menga in Subansiri basin has an installed capacity of about 2500 mw and is situated about 30 kilometres upstream of Dapurizo.
Total power potential of this basin is 7300 mw. Both Subansiri and Siang Rivers are tributaries of the Brahmaputra River. NHPC will be taking up detailed survey and investigationof these two projects soon and prepare detailed project reports.
The North Eastern region has hydro potential of 31857 mw which is about 38 per cent of India's hydro power potential. So far, hardly 1.8 per cent of the hydro potential has been harnessed in this region.
