Mumbai, June 1: Spices market at Navi Mumbai witnessed mixed trading during the week ended on May 28. Prices of most of the commodities remained steady while turmeric continued to skyrocket. Black pepper prices rebounced with furry after losing heavily on slump in international demand during previous fortnight.According to Rasik Mehta, a leading exporter of spices, the price of coriander ruled eased. While prices of cumin steadied up and fennel eased at Unjha, major trading centre of both the commodities. Upward trend in fenugreek continued.
Turmeric: Prices skyrocketed gaining Rs 100 per quintal over last week. In Sangli, prices increased to Rs 2,950 (Rs 2,800) for spot and Rs 2,800-2,900 (Rs 2,700/3,000) for truckloads. In Mumbai Free On Lorry (FOL) prices for Nizamabad were Rs 3,100/3,150 as against the previous week's Rs 3,000-3,050, Rs 3,050-3,075 (Rs 3,000-3,050) for Cuddapah variety, Rs 3,000/3,050 (2,950-3,000) for Duggirala variety and Rs 3,300/3,400 (Rs 3,200/3,250) for the Sanglipolished turmeric variety per quintal.
Coriander: Prices eased in wake of fresh bout of selling. Indore average ruled at Rs 1,200/1,225 (Rs 1,200/1,250), while Kanpur averaged at Rs 1,400/1,425 (Rs 1,350/1,400). Machine cleaned (M/C) and washed Kanpur at Rs Rs 1,550/1650 (Rs 1,550-1,700) and M/C and washed Indore at Rs 1,300/1625 (Rs 1,350-1,650). The 100 per cent split M/C ruled easy at Rs 1,000/1,010 (Rs 1,025-1,035) per quintal.
Cumin: Prices steadied during the week. The one per cent M/C for Singapore/Dubai quality ruled at Rs 1,175/1,200 (Rs 1,150-1,175), while for Europe it was steady at around Rs 1,300/1,325. The four per cent M/C ruled at Rs 1,125-1,150 (Rs 1,125/1,140) per 20 kg FOL.
Fennel: Prices eased by Rs 25 after grand rally. Dubai/Singapore quality was at Rs 870/900 (Rs 900/925) and for London/Europe quality at Rs 925/975 (Rs 950/1,000) per 20 kgs at FOB.
Fenugreek: Prices continued to rally. The M/C best bold ruled at Rs 2,1500/2,200 (Rs 2,000/2,100),medium best machine cleaned at Rs 1950/2000 (Rs 1825/1850) and average at Rs 1,875/1,900 (Rs 1,750/1,775). Dill seed: Prices ruled firm. The one per cent M/C ruled steady at Rs 3,850/3,900 and 11 per cent FAQ slightly higher at Rs 3,425/3,450 (Rs 3,450/3,500). New crop was lifted at Rs 4,150/4,200 per quintal FOL Mumbai.
Ajwain: Prices continued to rally. Jamnagar ruled between Rs 6,000/6,500, MP superior was higher at Rs 6,200/6,500 (Rs 6,000/6,500) and medium at Rs 5,500/5,800 (Rs 5,500/ 5,800.
Chillies: Production centres were closed and prices were quoted in the kerb market. Chillies with stem ruled at Rs 3,300/3,400 while chillies without stem ruled higher at Rs 4,350/4,400 (Rs 4,450/4,550) per quintal FOB Mumbai.
Tamarind: Paucity of goods lifted prices up. Basket ruled at Rs 3,400/3,500 (Rs 2,400-3,200), slab at Rs 3,600-3,650 (Rs 2,600/3,400), while consumer packs ruled steady at Rs 3,700/3,850 (Rs 2,800-3600).
Black pepper: Prices lifted with furry. Cochin readydelivery, ungarbled loose ruled at Rs 186 (Rs 180/182) per kilogram. In futures section at Cochin June delivery at Rs 194 (Rs 189.50) per kg FOB Cochin. The MG-1 FOB Cochin ruled at Rs 202 (Rs 195) and FOL Mumbai ruled at Rs 200 (Rs 192) per kg. Ginger: Prices steadied. NUGC good FOB Cochin ruled at Rs 85,000 and FOL Mumbai at Rs 82,000 per MT.
Sesame seeds: Prices softened on lack of interest in buying at high levels. The 98x2 ruled at Rs 3,450/3,500 (Rs 3,650/3,700), while 95x2 was at Rs 3,300/3,350. Hulled ruled at Rs 4,400/4,450.
Peanuts: Unseasonal rains caused some erratic fluctuations. Prices of 45/50 counts are Rs 2,650/2,700 (Rs 2,600-2,650), 50/60 counts at Rs 2,500-2,600 (Rs 2,550/2,550) and 60/70 counts at Rs 2,400/2,450 (Rs 2,300/2,350) and 70/80 counts at Rs 2,275/2,300 (Rs 2,300/2,350) and 80/90 counts at Rs 2,150/2,175 (Rs 2,100/2,150).
