TVS Suzuki sales rise 16.5% in May

Mumbai, June 3: Two-wheeler major TVS Suzuki has posted sales of 58,794 units in May 1999, registering a 16.5 per cent growth over May 1998. TVS Suzuki president CP Raman said that this growth in sales was achieved despite the annual shutdown of seven days in May, which restricted production to 52,017 units.

According to a release, the company sold 22,790 units of motorcycles in May 1999, a growth of 16.7 per cent over that of May 1998. For the period April-May 1999, motorcycle sales of TVS Suzuki were up at 49,173 units, which indicates a growth of 31.3 per cent over the same period last year.

TVS Suzuki has further consolidated its leadership position in the moped segment with a growth of 12.2 per cent in May 1999 over May 1998. TVS sold 27,373 units in May 1999, and sales for the April-May 1999 period were 57,378 units, a growth of 18.2 per cent over April-May 1998.

In the scooter segment, the company has registered a growth rate of 31.4 per cent in May 1999 over May 1998. Total scooter sales in May1999 stand at 8,631 units. For April-May 1999, the company registered sales volumes of 17,199 units, an improvement of 39.9 per cent over the same period last year.

Raman added that with the availability of full production in June 1999, TVS Suzuki is expected to cross the 70,000-mark and achieve a growth of 26 per cent in the first quarter of 1999-2000, compared with the first quarter of 1998-99.
