Mexico willing to extend oil output cuts

REUTERS
RIYADH, JUNE 6: Mexican energy minister Luis Tellez said last week his country was willing to consider extending the duration of its oil output cuts under a deal reached with other producers.

"Of course Mexico is open to extending its participation together with the rest of the countries," he told reporters after holding talks with his Saudi counterpart on oil market conditions following a March global production curb pact. Tellez was responding to a question about whether Mexico was willing to extend its production curbs beyond the end of 1999.

Tellez said that he and Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi had estimated in their Riyadh talks on Saturday that compliance with the March supply restraint deal was about 90 percent.

Asked if possible new oil output reductions were discussed,Tellez said: "No."The Mexican energy Minister said he was not concerned about the current level of oil prices.
