Oriya Television programmes on Net

Dilip Bisoi
Bhubaneswar, June 15: Good news for non-resident Oriya netizens. Oriya Television news programmes are now available on the Net. Hit www.orissatv.com and watch what is happening in Orissa.

The Orissa Television (OTV), a division of Bhubaneswar-based Ortel Communications Ltd, hosted the site on the Net last week and began beaming its popular news programmes. OTV, which is producing and telecasting daily news, news-based programmes and current affairs through a local private channel, is now providing all these programmes by using streaming video technology.

"Streaming technology converts standard audio and video tapes into a huge chunk of computer-link data. This technology makes it possible for the surfers to simultaneously hear and view such data being transmitted from a web server," said Jagi Mangat Panda, the director of Ortel Communications Ltd. According to her, streaming on the internet is yet to become familiar in the Indian cyber world. A couple of Indian TV channels are already accessible on theinternet while others have a text-only site, she said.
