Mumbai July 6: Spices continued to witness dull and lacklustre trading at the Navi Mumbai market for the week ended July 2. There was overall slackness in export and local front. Turmeric was slightly better while coriander continued to fall. Fenugreek, dillseeds and ajwainseeds maintained levels registered in the previous week. Turmeric: Prices of Sangli and Nizamabad edged up while those of Duggirala eased. Sowing of turmeric is in the offing and the total production of the year is estimated about 41 lakh bags. Erode is quoted at Rs 8700 per quintal with stocks of around 9-10 lakh bags. Another important centre, Nizamabad is holding stock of one lakh bags. Sangli has more than 800 pits (1 pit is equal to 150/285 bags).
Thus markets have abundant supplies. In Sangli, prices pushed up to Rs 2,900 (2,800) for spot and Rs 2,825-2,900 (2,700/2,825 ) for truckloads. In Mumbai Free-On-Lorry (FOL) prices for Nizamabad were Rs 2,900/2,925 (2,875/2,900 ), Rs 2,800-2,825 (Rs 2,800-2,825) for Cuddapah variety, Rs2,750-2,800 (2,825-2,850) for Duggirala variety and Rs 3,050/3,150 (Rs 3,050/3,100) for the Sangli polished turmeric finger variety per quintal.
Coriander: Prices continued to dip down on abundant supplies due to heavy carry forward stock and poor offtake. The Indore average was offered Rs 1,100-1,150 (Rs 1,150/1,175), while Kanpur average was Rs 1,200-1,250 (Rs 1,300-1,325). Machine cleaned (M/C) and washed Kanpur was lower at Rs 1,350/1,450 (Rs 1,450-1650) and M/C and washed Indore at Rs 1,250-1,550 (Rs 1,275-1550). The 100 per cent split M/C was easy at Rs 930-940 (Rs 950-9,65) per quintal.
Cumin: Prices steadied during the week. The one-per cent M/C for Singapore/Dubai quality was in a narrow band of Rs 1150/1175 (Rs 1,175-1,200), while for Europe it ruled steady at around Rs 1,275-1,300. The four-per cent M/C was around Rs 100/1125 (Rs 1,125-1,150) per 20 kilograms FOL Mumbai.
Fennel: Quite and steady conditions continued to prevail. Dubai/Singapore quality was offered at Rs 825-850 andLondon/Europe quality at Rs 900-950 (Rs 900-950) per 20 kg at FOB Mumbai.
Fenugreek: Stray export demand helped prices to maintain at reduced levels. The M/C best bold ruled at Rs 2,100-2,150 (Rs 2,100/2,150 ), medium best machine cleaned at Rs 1,850/1,875 (Rs 1,875-1,900) and average m/c Rs 1,775/1,800 (Rs 1,800-1,825).
Dill seed: Market continued to strong amidst tight supplies. The one-per cent M/C was steady at Rs 4050/4,100 (Rs 4,000-4,050) and 11 per cent FAQ slightly lower at Rs 3,600-3,650 (Rs 3,700-3,750 ). New crop was steady at Rs 4,300-4,350 per quintal FOL Mumbai.
Ajwain: Prices ruled firm on limited supplies. Jamnagar moved around Rs 6,200-6,700 (Rs 6,000/6,500), MP superior was higher at Rs 6,300/6,500 (6,200-6,500) and medium at Rs 5,800-6,000 per quintal FOL Mumbai.
Chillies: Turned easy on poor offtake and recent default by Navi Mumbai traders. Chillies with stem reduced to Rs 3,300-3,500 (Rs 3,450-3,550) while chillies without stem ruled steady at Rs 4,500-4,600 per quintal FOBMumbai. Tamarind: Firm trend continued to prevail in local and upcountry advices. Basket ruled at Rs 3,400-3,450, slab at Rs 3,500/3,600 (Rs 3,600-3,700) while consumer packs were lower at Rs 3,700-3,800 (Rs 3,800-4,000).
Black pepper: Prices fluctuated in a narrow range. Activities were slow. Cochin ready delivery, ungarbled loose ruled at Rs 183 (Rs 186) per kilogram. In the futures section, Cochin July delivery nosedived to Rs 189 (194.5) and August delivery at Rs 187 (193.5) per kg FOB Cochin. The MG-1 FOB Cochin was Rs 197 (Rs 200) and FOL Mumbai Rs 195 (195) per kg.
Ginger: Prices remained firm. NUGC good FOB Cochin traded at Rs 88,000 (87,000) and FOL Mumbai at Rs 88,000 (87,000) per MT.
Sesameseeds: Prices remained almost steady. The 98x2 was quoted around Rs 3,250-3,300 (3,200/3,250), while 95x2 was Rs 3,100/3,150 (3,100-3,150). Hulled edged up as supplies dried up and was traded at Rs 4,250-4,350 (4,300/4,400).
Peanuts: Prices were steady on better note. Prices of 45/50 counts were Rs2,575-2,625 (2,550-2,575), 50/60 counts at Rs 2,450-2,500 (2,450-2,475) and 60/70 counts at Rs 2,350-2,400 (2,375-2,400) and 70/80 counts at Rs 2,300-2,325 and 80/90 counts at Rs 2,200-2,250 (2,225-2,250).
