Mumbai, July 6: Bearish trend was witnessed on the bullion market here today.Standard gold closed Rs 10 lower at Rs 4,140 per 10 gm. so was gold .22 carat at Rs 3,830 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) slipped by Rs 100 at Rs 48,500 per piece. Demand was at a low ebb as continued overseas supplies coupled with weak dollar value against rupee and lower global advices prompted profit-taking by stockists and local bankers. In the overseas market the yellow metal fell from $262.95 to $260.25 per ounce on expected sale of 125 tonnes of gold by Britain.
Silver .999 moved down by Rs 25 at Rs 8,105 per kg. Silver .916 was eased by Rs 20 at Rs 7,960 per kg. Industrial and speculative buyers were stayed away while brisk supplies of raw silver from local sources coupled with weak Delhi and overseas advsices put pressure on silver prices, according to dealers. In the international market the white metal finished 2 cents lower at $5.25 per ounce.
G'nut oil recovers
Groundnut oil recoveredmodestly from lower level on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil on the other hand moved in a narrow range before closing on a quiet note.
Groundnut oil looked up by Rs 2 at Rs 365 per 10 kg on renewed buying interest. Reports of dealy in the second round of rainfall in the producing centres kept offerings restricted. In Rajkot groundnut oil quoted Rs 5 higher at Rs 585 per 15 kg.
Imported palm oil moved down by Rs 4 to Rs 220 per 10 kg exclusive of tax. Weak dollar value and easy global advices attributed to the setback. Palm oil in the global market finished lower by $5 at $382.50 per tonne for nearby delivery while long deliveries were available at $377.50/380 per tonne, it was learnt.
Castor oil ruled quiet at Rs 386/398 per 10 kg so was castorseed ready at Rs 1,774/1,780 per quintal amidst nominal trading.
In the futures section castorseed September delivery moved in a narrow band and closed a rupee higher at Rs 1,773 per quintal. In Ahmedabad prices quoted at Rs 1,777 andin Rajkot at Rs 1,774.50 per quintal. In Gujarat castorseed ready delivery ruled steady at Rs 344 per 20 kg. Castor oil changed hands at Rs 374 per 10 kg. Arrivals of castorseed in the Gujarat region placed around 28000/29000 bags.
Sugar marginally up
A steady-to-marginally better trend was noticed in indigenous sugar on better buying support while imported sugar suffered setback.
M-30 were placed at Rs 1425-1505 and S-30 at Rs 1415-1442 a quintal ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost, M-30 were on offer at Rs 1415-1425 while S-30 were traded at Rs 1395-1398.
In tenders, M-30 were indicated at Rs 1370-1375 and S-30 at Rs 1350-1355 in Kolhapur line.
White Thai sugar price shed Rs 5 at Rs 1290, exclusive of sales tax ex-Kandla on increased offerings.
Grains quiet
A quietly steady condition continued on the grains market on low volume of business.
Among imported pulses, only urad Myanmar price was edged up by Rs 20 a quintal at Rs 1671 on restricted supply, coupled with scattered buyingsupport. Green peas Rumba/Heart at Rs 1250 and Canadian at Rs 800-940 as also white peas Canadian at Rs 911 were static. Tur Myanmar were on offer at Rs 1825.
Moong Myanmar and Chinese were mentioned at Rs 1500-1675 and at Rs 1725-1825 respectively. Rajma chitra deshi and Chinese found sellers at Rs 2600-2700 and at Rs 2400-2500 respectively. Red rajma Myanmar unpolished found sellers at Rs 1750 while superior fetched Rs 1900-1950.Wheat and rice were unchaged. Wheat MP 147 ruled at Rs 775-875 and Sarbati in the range of Rs 900-1400. Rice Gujarat-17 were quoted at Rs 1800-2200.
Yarn listless
A quiet trend continued on the yarn market.
Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon, 150dn ruled at Rs 196, 120dn at Rs 206, 100dn at Rs 215 and 75dn at Rs 245 a kg. In the case of coarse deniers, 180dn were on offer at Rs 186, 300dn at Rs 168, 450dn at Rs 140 and 600dn at Rs 138. 120dn dull cones found sellers at Rs 212.
Nylon yarn Gujnil 20/1/0dn and 30/1/0dn were quoted at Rs 202and at Rs 300 respectively. 111/24/0dn ruled at Rs 150. 15/1/0 Shreelon/Modipon were placed at Rs 230.
Cotton steady
A steady condition continued on the cotton market. Offerings were restricted following lack of rains in Gujarat.
V-797 were placed at Rs 13,000-13,500, Wagad at Rs 12,500 and Kalan-ginned at Rs 11,900 a candy spot.Sanker continued to be placed in the range of Rs 15,500-21,000.
In futures, there was no trading in any of the contracts. New February contract has come on the board today.
