Synthetic textile exporters seek tax exemption on DEPB credit
Sybthetic textile exporters have urged for the immediate exemption from sales tax on transfer of credit under the duty entitlement passbook scheme charged by the government of Maharashtra.
India slips 2 notches to 52nd rank in world competitiveness
India has slipped two notches to the 52nd rank in world competitiveness, according to the 1999 Global Competitiveness Report of the Geneva-based World Economic Forum. Singapore retained the top ranking in the annual economic survey which rates competitiveness of 59 countries in all.
Steel imports up 29% despite floor price bar
Steel imports are up 29% in the first two months of the new fiscal, defying the price bar imposed by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in December last year. The steep increase in steel imports this year comes in the wake of an equally dramatic drop in imports last year and despite the import ban on the cheap metal.
