It took a lot to keep the stock markets down ever since the first piece of good news regarding improvements in the some critical sectors of the economy started emerging in May 1999. The latest Human Development Report (HDR) goes beyond ranking nations by the human development index to the burgeoning inequalities spawned by a purely market-driven integration of the global community. The report calls for a task force with perhaps 10 industrial and 10 developing nations to report to key bodies like IMF, World Bank and WTO.

For stock options, a strict timetable has been provided which would consist of three parts. First is the vesting period after which only the employee becomes eligible to apply for shares under the scheme. Thereafter will be the exercise period during which he can apply for the shares. The last phase is the lock-in period during which he cannot sell the shares allotted to him.
