The motion, already adopted by the Senate, was passed by the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The chairman of international relations committee Benjamin Gilman, who moved the motion, and several members of Republic and Democratic parties said it was not enough and demanded the sanctions be suspended altogether for five years, and preferably permanently.

The Congressmen said they would move resolutions in that regard.

After imposing sanctions, the US released an entities list of about 500 Indian companies barring these from dealing with their American counterparts in dual-use technology.

The sanctions were, however, waived for one year late last year in an effort to encourage India and Pakistan sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
