Siemens to float arm for hearing aids

Siemens has announced the formation of Siemens Hearing Instruments Pvt Ltd (SHI), a company floated for marketing and distribution of hearing instruments in the country. SHI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH of Germany. SHI offers a wide range of hearing instruments from the pocket hearing aid to behind the ear and in the canal models. SHI also customises the hearing instruments to suit the individual hearing requirements of the hearing impaired.

Alembic unveils Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alembic has introduced Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) under the brand name ALA 100. ALA is one of the strongest scavengers of free radicals which are the major culprits involved in the development of complications in diseases like diabetes, cataract, cancer etc. ALA is currently the most talked about and researched anti-oxidant in USA and Europe.

Glaxo, IJCP essay contest

Sudhanshu Patwardhan, from the BJ Medical College, Pune, has won thesecond All India Inter-Medical College essay competition for interns and final year MBBS students, organised jointly by the IJCP group of publications, a leader in medical publications and Glaxo India. The awards were presented by Glaxo India & Burroughs Wellcome India managing director HR Khusrokhan and Dr RD Lele, Padmabhushan awardee, at a felicitation function in Mumbai.

Ecoplast achieves turnaround

Ecoplast Ltd, has registered a net profit of Rs 21.63 lakh as against a loss of Rs 8.77 lakh for the first quarter of the current fiscal. Sales income increased by over 80 per cent while gross profit stood at Rs 49.18 lakh.

Repographics launches PatentScan

Reprographics, an online information centre, has launched a new patents bulletin, PatentScan. This bulletin is a monthly, pro-active one exclusively for the pharmaceutical and drug industry. Every month, PatentScan will track latest drug patents, sort them by clinical indication or therapeutic class and publish the titles in the patentsmonitor section.

Khaitan seeks land to build plant

Fan manufacturer Khaitan (India) Ltd has approached the West Bengal government for land to build its plant in Calcutta as the old unit was destroyed in a recent fire. Stating that approximate cost in this regard would be to the tune of Rs 6 crore, company vice-chairman Sunil K Khaitan said the company was waiting for insurance money for the purpose. Though Khaitan had plans to rebuild the unit (which had a capacity of turning out 50,000 fans per month) within next two months, problems in land acquisition was delaying the project, he said.

Gujarat Venture redeems GVCF-1990

Gujarat Venture Finance Ltd has redeemed another 10 per cent of its corpus of GVCF-1990, thus bringing the total corpus of GVCF-1990 redeemed to 50 per cent. Simultaneously, it has also redeemed 5 per cent of GVCF-1995 bringing the total corpus redeemed to 10 per cent. GVFL manages funds of Rs 124 crore and has made investment in 46 companies in the country. Its thirdfund with a corpus of Rs 4 crore has made investment in four software companies.
