2100 employees opt for golden handshake in BHEL's Trichy unit

Tiruchirappalli, Aug 23: As many as 2103 employees of the public sector BHEL's unit here have opted for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) and the first batch of them would retire from the organisation this month-end.

The management had approved all the VRS applications, including those from 323 executives, unit's general manager (in-charge) VK Gopinath told reporters here.

A total of 8,600 employees of various BHEL units in the country had opted for VRS, he said.

The BHEL complex here had a workforce of about 13,200 and the approximate wage bill was Rs 10.5 crore a month, he said.

He said the management had arranged for counselling to those who opted for VRS on post-retirement life, inlcuding on how to invest their hard earned money.

Gopinath also said BHEL had received the letter of intent from NTPC for supplying boilers and other components to its Talcher thermal power plant.
