Tata Tech's e-commerce solution targeted at manufacturing, service companies

Geeta Nair

Pune, Aug 23: Tata Technologies, a subsidiary of Telco with a turnover of Rs 51 crore, on Monday launched `Value Chain Management', an e-commerce solution to enable value-based interaction between business partners and manufacturers.

Over 350 suppliers of Telco are already using this solution to transact with the company and the number is expected to go up to over 1,000 soon.

Following its successful implementation at Telco's Pune site, Tata Technologies is now targeting other manufacturing and service companies to sell VCM.

At Telco, initially, Tata Technologies had established an EDI network. However, due to high cost involved in getting connected to the EDI and poor internal IT systems of small suppliers, this was found inadequate. It also took more than three years to bring around 300 suppliers under EDI.

Thus, Tata Technologies developed a Web-based solution to enable dealers and suppliers of Telco to transact electronically in an online real-time mode.Apart from sending and receiving businessdata, the system also provides for exchange of CAD data, a feature not available in any existing product. Among other things, the system can also carry out vendor ratings.

The VCM solution was launched in May this year. Telco benefitted through cost savings in communication, online access to information, better work flow and transparency within the organisation. VCM has been made operational at Telco's Pune site. Jamshedur, Mumbai and Lucknow sites will become operational soon.

SD Pradhan, CEO, Tata Technologies, said the company was aiming at achieving a turnover of around Rs 60 crore this year and the product was expected to generate additional revenues for the company.

The company has already signed up with Kinetic Engineering to implement this product and agreements are still to be signed with five more companies. Talks are also on with other Tata group companies for selling this product.

VCM is aimed at improving competitiveness of business partners as it encompasses best practices and solutionsavailable worldwide. Through the internet, VCM offers substantial benefits to the enterprise in terms of early information, better communication and improved services. This will help reduce the cycle time for a company's products, from design to delivery of the product.
